Race 1 – 1.10 British European Breeders Fund EBF Fillies’ Handicap

A red-hot competitive handicap to get us underway, as expected.

An excellent few of these make the shortlist and three-year-olds tend to control this heat.

Leading of the shortlist is the Charlie Hills-trained CLEARLY, who broke her maiden tag here at last year’s Celebration.

She’s only had 2 runs since, and 4 in overall, and is plainly completely unexposed. On her resurgence this season she formed well enough from the rear.

However she is a monster filly and will plainly come on for that. A mark of 84 looks mild enough and Will Buick is a good jockey reservation. She might simply go under the radar here.

John Gosden has actually remained in excellent nick and his Wassaayef has obvious claims. It’s her first outing at three after 3 solid efforts as a juvenile.

That type is some of the best available, however she hasn’t been missed out on by the handicapper off of 93.

Angel Power is another that has to be appreciated. She’s another lightly-tried three-year-old and was simply edged out last time out.

But a 5lbs rise for ending up second is constantly harsh and this demands more. She’ll have to enhance.

Ralph Beckett’s Declared Interest would have come under close factor to consider for wagering functions, but her attract 12 simply moods interest.

She has a similar race in her in the future off her existing ranking.

William Haggas is as excellent as it gets with these improving fillies and his Tomorrow’s Dream has to be a risk with Tom Marquand back in the saddle.

Race 2 – 1.45 Unibet You’re On Handicap

Like London buses, the next handicap is another sizzler with a number of apparent possibilities prowling.

Maydanny is an excellent place to begin and ought to not be ruled out off the back of his Newmarket no-show.

Prior To that, this well-bred and now gelded four-year-old, hosed up on his handicap launching and was backed into joint-favourite for the Silver Hunt Cup. He ran great there in a race that has actually exercised extremely well considering that.

He slips into this off a low weight and it implies Silvestre De Sousa is called up to ride him.

But FIFTH POSITION is a horse I’ve always had a great deal of time for and has actually been left alone at the weights for his 3rd in the John Smith’s.

There is still more to come from this horse, and why I ‘d like to see him up in trip to a mile-and-a-half, anticipate him to be dropped in here from stall ten.

He’ll need luck in running as any horse does at Goodwood, however Andrea Atzeni understands him well and the very first time blinkers might eke out more improvement. I ‘d have him plenty shorter in the wagering here regardless of a couple of probably being less exposed and possibly better handicapped.

Tinandali caught the eye in the John Smith’s when fifth and he needs to be respected, specifically at double figure odds.

His trainer David O’Meara won this race last year with a comparable type.

Derevo looks brief enough for me at the top of the market, he was well held at Doncaster last time. Albeit he is likely to kick on for that outing.

Cape Cavalli has actually formed well on his last two getaways and his development is not likely to have completed. A car park draw isn’t valuable.

Red October took the race from the front at Leicester last time and why more progress can’t be dismissed, he’s best looked for now.

SELECTION: Fifth Position

THREATS: Maydanny & Tinandali

Race 3 – 2.15 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (Group 2)

The first Group race of the week and it’s one that’s been won by some wise horses down the years. Highland Reel, Pinatubo and Specialist Eye simply three.

Aidan O’Brien’s Battleground is the short-priced preferred and I ‘d protest him off the back of his Chesham Stakes win at Ascot.

The type of that race is very doubtful this year around. Plenty have been beat from the race, and offered the rejigged schedule for youngsters, that was constantly most likely to be the case.

At verging on even cash, he gets a huge fat swerve. It’s a favourites race, 6 of the last 8 have won, however there are horses who ran in far better races at Ascot and they make more appeal.

And at double figure odds, although he’s shortened because the marketplace opened, Alan King’s PAINLESS POTTER looks a fantastic bet.

He’s caught the eye on both starts, with a third at Kempton prior to an enhanced effort in the Coventry at Ascot.

He steps up in journey to 7 furlongs which looks key to his opportunities, there is lots of endurance in his pedigree.

It’s a sharp seven at Goodwood, however there need to be a great gallop on, and the more difficult they go, the much better his possibility.

King Zain had no chance after the start in the Superlative Stakes and isn’t without a possibility. Frankie Dettori is on board.

Dark Lion almost broke his maiden tag last time out at Wolverhampton. He needs plenty more here though and looks short enough.

A return to his Ascot type sees him in there with a shout, however.

Sneaky Business arguably has the best form in the book. His 2nd in the Superlative was a severe effort.

He was no match for the winner, but was constantly up with the speed and did well to stick it out for second.

I would put no one off chancing him along with the choice.

THREAT: Sneaky Business

Race 4 – 2.45 Qatar Lennox Stakes (Group 2)

Always a breaking race, 7 furlong experts get their day in the sun at Goodwood in the Lennox Stakes.

And Sir Dancealot has made the race his own in current seasons and is chasing after a hat-trick after winning the last 2 renewals.

He’s never the most consistent, but trainer David Elsworth knows how to get him prepared for the special day. It does not take a genius to exercise that this will have been the date circled in the calendar early in the spring.

However he’s been well found in the market and hasn’t run up to his typical levels this season.

It’s a major looking race for the level, and I have 2 fancies. There seems little in the way of speed on and it may deserve taking a flyer on Marie’s Diamond who could be very hazardous from stall two.

He produced a profession best at Newmarket on his return run and backed that up with a 3rd in the Queen Anne – rock solid kind.

He ran no race in the Summer Mile and it’s safe to put a line through that. This must match him and with Silvestre De Sousa on board once again he looks over-priced.

The other dart is Duke Of Hazzard, who just enjoys it at Goodwood, winning on all 3 check outs.

I fancied him in the Queen Anne and he disappointed albeit in a race that would not have actually suited at all.

His Summer Mile third to Mohaather was encouraging and he needs to be area on for this. He has no reasons here and the drop to 7 is of no concern. A strong speed assists this horse.

Space Blues and Safe Trip are closely matched on type but look no price in this.

Pierre Lapin is totally unexposed but has plenty to respond to after his Commonwealth Cup no show. A big market move for him would be of interest.

SELECTIONS: Duke Of Hazzard & Marie’s Diamond

Race 5 – 3.15 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1)

A two horse race on paper and in the betting – it’s tough to argue against that.

STRADIVARIUS has to give away 15 pounds to Aidan O’Brien’s Irish Derby winner Santiago No easy task.

I ‘d still expensive John Gosden’s star to finish the job, but at excessive chances I’m more than happy to view. It’s an interesting clash however a repeat of his Gold Cup heroics and it must be a fourth Goodwood Cup for the star stayer.

Of the expected outsiders, Eagles By Day is of the most interest for the in kind David O’Meara team.

NO BET SELECTION: Stradivarius

Race 6 – 3.45 Qatar Handicap

A very first race over the flying five on the Downs for the week and I like the opportunities of Tony Carroll’s RECON OBJECTIVE

Tom Marquand has actually chosen him over Caspian Prince and the jockey-trainer combination is always one to enjoy.

The horse has dropped to an attractive mark – one he last won off – and would have been primed for this after a couple of pipe openers.

His 3rd at Newbury last time out was solid adequate and evaluated on that a drop to five furlongs does not look a problem.

Another horse on the shortlist is Sylvester Kirk’s Benny And The Jets

He produced a blistering efficiency when winning on his first start of the year at Kempton.

A go back to a simpler track like Goodwood, plus an assisting hand from the handicapper might see him get better at a big cost.

However veteran sprinter ORNATE requires no intro and Goodwood is his track.

He was 3rd to Battaash here last season and back in a handicap off a mark of 97 looks too big a cost.

He’s 6lbs better off with Caspian Prince than when third to him at Newcastle.

CHOICES: Ornate & Recon Mission

Race 7 – 4.20 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes

A difficult heat for punters here and not one I’ll be getting involved with.

Of the nine declared runners, just four have actually had runs and the requirement they set is far from unsurpassable.

Keep an eye on the betting for the 5 beginners. John Gosden’s Tawleed is of obvious interest, but Jim Crowley selects Marcus Tregoning’s ALKUMAIT

He ran all right on launching at Newbury and should be better for that run. An enhancement on that will see him go close and he gets the tentative nod.

Any Mark Johnston horse needs regard at Goodwood and Majd Al Arab has the benefit of 2 runs and Ryan Moore in the saddle.

Race 8 – 4.55 British European Breeders Fund EBF Fillies’ Handicap

The closing heat is a brand-new addition to the Celebration and a bit of a puzzle. There’s not much I’m keen on here and will likely keep my powder dry.

The three-year-olds get 11 pounds from their senior citizens and that makes them of apparent interest.

The penny has clearly dropped with Dancing Approach lately, but she began life off a lowly mark of 65 and has actually quickly soared to79 This requires more.

ASIAAF looks nicely treated on just her second trip in a handicap and has actually won at Goodwood. She has an obvious opportunity.

Trainer Marcus Tregoning might be in for a huge week and he has a couple of fancied runners on the opening day. Watch on his filly in the wagering.
